Editor-In-Chief Makes Room for Younger Dog

Dear Friends, Fellow Animal Lovers and Readers of this blog,

I would like to thank you for the wonderful years of support you have given me, by simply reading our blog, and supporting the work we do.

As Editor-In-Chief for this blog, I have had the privilege to be a very great part of Noah’s Ark CARES. Over the years, I have been to many road shows, school talks, doggie tea parties, etc – all with the purpose of educating and raising funds for my fellow animals. I also mentored young dogs and taught them to behave themselves, so that they would not be given up or abandoned. I never hesitated to take time out from my hectic schedule to tend to these events, as I believed that we need to educate the young generation.

I love this kid!

I lived on the streets as a puppy, scavenging garbage bins for scraps. Someone used a stick to hit me and broke my tail bone when I was just a few months old. I ran as fast as my tiny legs could carry me but little did I know I was running on the highway. My mommy was driving on the AYE and saw me running on the road shoulder. She stopped, quickly caught me and put me in her car.

The Doctor said I would no longer be able to wag my tail but my mommy decided to keep me anyway. She could not take me home just yet, so I lived with some friends in a factory for a few years.

Finally one day mommy decided to take me home and I was elated! Five years living in a factory and eating curry and chicken rice was more than I could take!

Being a Big Brother to younger dogs

The things I did for animal welfare!

I have lived with mommy for the past five years and I am now 10. I have worked very hard for my fellow animals and our cause. Mommy says it is now time for me to step down and make room for other young dogs.

I would like to introduce everyone to Benny, your new Editor-In-Chief. Like me, Benny lived in an industrial estate for many years and his favourite past time was chasing motorcycles and bicycles. He loved it so much that he could almost outrun them! Soon people travelling on the road started kicking him and complaining about Benny because they didn’t like his idea of fun. The authorities threatened to take Benny away for good and the security Uncle approached a kind lady who fed Benny regularly, to ask if she could help him.

This kind lady offered to take Benny to Noah’s Ark Sanctuary and his boarding is generously paid by her. Benny enjoys his days lazing under the sun and waiting for weekends, when visitors or his care-giver comes to visit.

I hope that everyone will continue supporting Benny, our blog and the work we do and I thank you for believing in our work.

Love,
ZEUS

27th March Tour is FULL

The tour to Noah’s Ark this coming Saturday is FULL. Thank you for your enthusiasm and we hope you have a woofing good time. In the meantime, please read this article and look forward to this Saturday!

Finally got myself down to Noah’s Ark! Have been meaning to go, but was told to wait till the dry season otherwise we wouldn’t be able to walk around the grounds. I heard about Noah’s Ark through some animal lover friends from KL who went to visit sometime last year and were in absolute ‘awe’ of the place – that had me intrigued and needing to go!!! Working in a hotel, I had a project of getting rid of stuff we wanted to donate for a good cause, and what a better one than to our four legged friends who give us unconditional love, right? So that was the plan. So here was Aidah (Marketing & Communications Manager) and myself driving off with a van full of goodies to so-called animal paradise, which is exactly what Noah’s Ark is!!!

Joy giving the horses a treat
It was just 45 minutes from JB city, having taken a wrong turn somehow and back-tracking a bit, we finally arrived and were welcomed by Lynda and another volunteer, Fiona, who presented us to even more welcoming 4 legged sweeties! Every shape and size – barking their ‘hellos’ in unison. Can’t remember all their names, but will eventually since I intend to visit as often as my work-load dictates.

Joy and Rico
I can’t deny that I fell in love with more than one, one of which is Rico who is a total gentleman! Another adorable brown standard Daschund who was in the infirmary as he just had an injury and had to be confined…can’t remember his name tho’, but he is one of the ones that I’ve sponsored, and big old Mr. St. Bernard, Mozart - a few who grew on me in the few short hours while I was there.

Being sniffed, licked and jumped on with excitement by my new-found friends, I was in heaven!!! I was told that the animals were friendly, but I didn’t realize just how?? Having grown up with a house full cats and dogs myself, I have had my fair share of moody buggers who you just don’t bother with when they have that look in their eyes. But at Noah’s Ark it wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration to say that all were loving and just wanted to be your friend.

Joy and Mozart
It’s been a few weeks since my visit and the feeling of satisfaction I have is still fresh in my mind! Walking through the grounds being ushered along by my four legged friends as if asking me – ‘don’t you love my home? Isn’t it great here?’ was an excellent experience. Dogs running free, horses relaxed and cats so affectionate was a dream come true to an animal lover such as myself. When you think of the population of dogs and cats at Noah’s Ark and every single one of them just happy to meet you, as if saying ‘Welcome to my home!’ as opposed to visiting other animal shelters where you feel the animals are crying out to you – ‘Take Me Home!’ was a relief to say the least. At Noah’s Ark you know in your heart that each and every one of them is loved and cared for in spite of just a handful of ‘slaves’, as they fondly call themselves, that dedicate their time to Noah’s Ark.

Aidah and Mozart

Joy giving Pipit all her attention

Hope you enjoy the photographs that Aidah and I took of our field trip to Noah’s Ark, where I just may become a permanent fixture. Enjoy them, or better yet, make a trip down yourself and spend the day picnicking with friends and giving a little TLC to the Noah’s Ark family. I can assure you a de-stressing day, and you will definitely make these four-legged friends happy with just a little of your time and affection for them.

A Home Visit to Diesel’s Place

Dear readers,

Do you remember Diesel? Our maggot wound dog that was resuced from the industrial estate?

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE TWO BLOG ARTICLES CONTAIN DISTURBING PICTURES.

See http://noahsarkcares.blogspot.com/2008/08/before-reading-further-please-be-aware_14.html and http://noahsarkcares.blogspot.com/2008/08/before-reading-further-please-be-aware_14.html

Diesel’s case upset many of my friends greatly when I showed them the photo of his treated but still raw wound, as they wondered how come a bite wound can manifest into something so serious, and they are equally amazed at how Diesel did not die from it. According to the security guard at the construction site, Diesel was the third or fourth victim to be bitten by the same dog, and he was the only that survived. Imagine you could smell his maggot wound when driving past the road he was walking along?!?

Diesel's old battle scars

At the door of Diesel’s home when I pressed the door bell, a roly-poly dog greeted me! I took a second look, and realized, oh my, he was like double his size when I first saw him! He was happily galloping around like a horse, up and down the steps and kept snuggling up for attention.

Lucky Diesel gets a walk thrice or even four times daily. Upon reaching home, he knows that Mr Yuen will go to the study room and switch on the air-conditioning, thus now he dashes into the study room faster than Mr Yuen can walk! At night, he will sleep right outside their bedroom, enjoying the air-conditioning that sips out from the gap under the bedroom door.

Diesel is getting picky with food and refuses to eat unless butter is applied onto it! This explains for his wide and expanding waistline! He also likes to look out of the window by standing on twos, and gaze at the world outside, giving the contented look as if saying “oh, the world is wide and I’ve almost seen it all, but boy am I lucky to have somewhere to rest my tired feet..”

Many might be thinking about the recovery progress of the injury Diesel had. Yes there is quite a visible scar there, and the fur will never grow back to cover the scar, but Diesel has come a long way and the scar is evidence of that. Mr and Mrs Yuen told me that they did have an intention of getting a puppy initially, but their daughter who is overseas now, upon learning about Diesel’s sad story plus seeing his photos, insisted that they adopt him instead. Thank you Miss Yuen, for so kindly giving Diesel a new lease of life. He will no longer have to fight for survival out in the open, for food, for territory.

Last but not least, check out Diesel's story on RazorTV by clicking on this link: Diesel's Story http://www.razor.tv/site/servlet/segment/main/news/44240.html. For 1 more RazorTV clip, please take a look at our right column under videos.

We at Noah's Ark are extremely happy for Diesel, as he has finally found his forever home.
