Dedicated to people in rescue

written by Jeanne Illische

I wasn’t a pup when I came to your home
I’d been dumped on the road, left to roam.
Don’t remember the people except the pain
They left me do to die in the cold and the rain.

You were driving along the highway, it was late at night
When you saw the faintest glimmer of light
You took a chance and turned around
Got out of the van and knelt to the ground

My quivering body felt the gentlest of hands
I knew I need not make any more demands
In your heart, and your home, there will always room
For those who would face certain doom

You healed my body and you healed my heart
You gave me what I needed, a fresh start
When I cried at night, you were always there
With soft words,a kiss and a hug to share.

When I misbehaved and would cower with guilt
You only showered me love …up to the hilt
You loved and cared for me in sickness and in health
Our love for each other was more precious than wealth.

Even when you were tired and had a bad day
You would always come home to me and say
“I missed you baby, I am glad to be back.”
Then you gave me a kiss, a hug to share.

We’d have a nice dinner, then go and out to play
There was so much love I wanted to stay.
But my eyes, they faded and my heart grew weak
As my time grew closer you could not speak.

You held me tight, tears flowing from your eyes
We both had to say our sad good byes
The release from pain we knew must end
No more time on this Earth would we spend
Running in the fields, playing ball
Sitting quietly together at the end of it all.

But our time together is not through
Because I’ll be there waiting for you
At the edge of the Rainbow Bridge I’ll stand
Until I once again see those gentle hands.

I’ll run to you with tail held high
We will never again have to say good bye
My love at death, it does not end
Because you are, indeed, dog’s best friend.

A dog's Christmas prayer

Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town
every shelter is full, we are lost, but not found,

Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
we hope every minute that someone will care,

They’ll come to adopt us and give us a call,
“Come here, Max and Sparkie – come and fetch your new ball!!”

But now we sit here and think of the days
we were treated so fondly – we had cute baby ways,

Once we were little, then we grew and we grew,
now we are no longer young and we’re no longer new.

So out of the back door we were thrown like trash,
they reacted so quickly – why were they so rash?

We “jump on the children” ; “ don’t come when they call”;
we “bark when they leave us”, climb all over the wall.

We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
now we suffer the consequences of the error THEY made.

If only they trained us, if only we knew..
we would have done what they asked us and worshipped them too.

We were left in the backyard, or worse – let to roam –
now we’re tired and lonely and out of a home.

They dropped us here and kiss us goodbye…
“Maybe someone else will give you a try”.

So now here we are all confused and alone..
in a shelter with others who long for a home.

The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
with so many to care for, they can’t stay for a chat.

They move to the next kennel, giving all of us cheer..
we know they wonder how long we will be here.

We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads..
of a home filled with love, and our very own cozy beds..

Then we wake to see sad eyes brimming with tears –
our friends filled with emptiness, worry and fear.

If you can’t adopt us and no room at the inn,
could you help with the food bills and fill our bin?

We count on your kindness, each day of the year –
can you give hope to everyone here?

Please make a donation to pay for the heat..
and help us get something special to eat..

The shelter that cares for us want us to live
and more of us will, if more people will give.

A dog's prayer for food

Dear Noahs Ark CARES blog readers,

Today we have a lighthearted post for you - written specially by a good friend, Mr Popsicle, and edited by Mr Prince. From the bottom of their little doggy hearts, it was written from scratch with much sincerity and thoughtfulness. Please enjoy!

A Dog’s Prayer for Food

Kind souls have sent us to Noah’s Ark
Where everyday is like a frolic in the park
Playing to our hearts’ content
Our unpleasant experiences put to an end

With humans and dogs we now call friends
We look forward to the weekends
Where people visit to play with us
While bringing us food and giving our coats a brush
Feeding us treats is always a must!

With the sharp increase in pet food costs
We are worried about Uncle Raymund
For we know that he will continue feeding us
To him our doggy lives we entrust

So please Lord, help feed my fellow friends
All 700 of them (to be exact)!
Simply by clicking on this link
( http://www.reinbiotech.com/shelters/nanas/contribute-nanas.jsp)
And ordering food from Rein Biotech

It wasn't easy to obtain this source,
so please do help to share the cost
They are giving us a one-for-one deal
So that we’ll never have to worry about our next meal!

More food please?

Tigger's Christmas Wish

MY CHRISTMAS WISH:

People look at me but what do they see
Yet another mongrel born with no blood of a pedigree
Would you give me a chance to walk by your side?
Could you try and understand what lies inside?
A pure heart bursting to belong and to love
To be the loyal friend you can be proud of

If there really is a Santa, I hope he'll grant my simple wish
I don’t need much, I promise won’t be selfish
I don’t require fancy treats or a special bone
All I want for Christmas is a place to call home.

TIGGER’S STORY:

Tigger was born on a construction site with 4 brothers and sisters. Food was scarce and life was harsh but he was contented just being able to snuggle up to his Mommy and his siblings at night.

However, Tigger’s world shattered when he was just one month old. His Mommy was killed when she was run over by a lorry at site. Left to fend for themselves, the one-month-old pups struggled to survive.

Luckily, an angel came to the rescue in the form of a kind human being. She saw the pups crying and sniffing around their Mommy’s still form. Immediately, their pitiful sight made her eyes well up with tears. No matter how tired she was after work, she would drive there to feed them, continuing to provide them with food and milk every other night.

Sadly, Tigger’s happiness didn’t last. Just the other day, the lady learnt that his brother had also been run over by a lorry. She was devastated. Not wishing to see Tigger and his remaining siblings meet with the same fate, she brought Tigger and his sister home for fostering. Thankfully, she managed to find a permanent home for Tigger’s sister and is still trying hard to find a good home for Tigger. Should there be any kind soul whose heart is big enough to share their home with him, please contact Suzanne @ 9697 5363. He is currently 4 months old and is a very sweet and affectionate boy.

Meanwhile, Tigger’s 2 other siblings remain at the construction site and every second they are there, their lifes will constantly be in danger. We are urgently seeking fosterers who are willing to help take care of these 2 pups while we look for permanent homes for them. Please email info@noahsarkcares.com should you wish to help us out by being a fosterer.

Nikki & Chwing

This morning, I woke up and kissed my dad's head
I peed on the carpet before going back to bed.
The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great.
Then I thought about breakfast, hoping it would not be late.
Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.
This never fails to make her smile.

She carried me a short distance before puting me down
Walked quickly away from me without turning around
I cried and dragged my little body as fast as I could
It was a seperation I never understood
Why did she keep me for 4 months before dumping me?
Why didn't she put me down when she knew she could never love me?

It is not my fault to be born with my hind legs deformed
I now wish too I had never been born
That day I crawled till my knees became blistered and bled
But my Mom left me there and never came back
A kind soul found me and took me to the Vet
A tiny little furball I was, bleeding and scared

Chwing's deformed hind legs

This little puppy was found abandoned along a corridor at a block of HDB flats. The puppy was examined by Dr Heng of Mt Pleasant Sunset Way and x-rays were done on its hind legs. Its hind legs are deformed but the puppy is able to move around by dragging itself with its two front legs. Despite this, the puppy is otherwise healthy.

After staying two days at the clinic, young Vet Assistant, Nikki, has adopted the puppy and taken him home. She has lovingly named him "Chwing" as his hind legs resemble chicken wings. Her compassionate and kindly action has brought tears to our eyes and we hope to be able to help both Chwing and her.

If you can contribute to help Nikki build a set of wheels for Chwing, please contact Noah’s Ark and we would link you up. For now, Nikki has Chwing's legs bandaged at the knees so he does not get more blisters and sores when he crawls about.

Could you please help Nikki and Chwing?
